I am a landscape photographer based in York in the North of England. My interest in landscape photography takes me all over the country although of course a large proportion of my work is around the hills, moors and coastline of my home in North Yorkshire. I hope you like my photos, I try and capture the feel of a location whether it be rugged hills and mountains or tranquil plains and flatlands.

My love of photography comes from my father, who was once a professional commercial photographer. I grew up keen on becoming a photographer, but my dad wasn't keen on that happening. When I was 16 I did work experience with one of his old friends, another commercial photographer, who my dad, unknown to me, suggested should put me off going into professional photography!

At 6am on the first morning of my work experience Doug, the photographer I was working for, had me shovelling up roadkill to take to a taxidermist friend of his who stuffed animals in unusual poses for advert photography in return for Doug dropping roadkill off. Later that day I was on my hands and knees in the street in Leeds, picking up every cigarette end and bit of rubbish in front of the building we were photographing from the top floor of there building opposite as Doug was such a perfectionist, and we were shooting on 5x4" film where retouching wasn't half as easy as it is now with Photoshop. All this craziness did nothing but persuade me professional photography was fun!

I moved on and my love of photography slipped a bit, I bought a Nikon SLR kit on a whim one day when I was working in London. I excitedly rang my dad and told him. After a few rolls of film I rang my dad puzzled saying I couldn't get on with it. He replied that he'd not wanted to disappoint me but that he'd never got on with a Nikon. Weirdly neither could I! I could appreciate it was a decent piece of kit but I just didn't get on with it.

Fast forward a few years and digital SLRs were much improved from the first Kodak DCS models I once demonstrated to the Ministry of Defence in a job in the late 90s. I was working as the Sales Manager at one of Europe's leading Porsche specialists, and we did a lot of photoshoots with the Porsche magazines, that was rekindling my interest in photography. I rang a customer who owned The Flash Centre in Leeds. In a weird coincidence when my dad was a pro he worked with this chap's dad. I mentioned I was interested in getting a digital SLR, so he very kindly swung by after work with a Canon digital SLR (a 450D) for me to try. I was hooked once again.

I did the usual thing of going out and being a jack of all trades photographer, shooting wildlife, motorsport, architecture, being the photographer at family parties, you name it. I became aware that I was most happy on my own in the countryside photographing landscapes. It was such a change from the manic world of international high-end car sales, such a different pace waiting for a cloud to blow into just the right place, or a sliver of sunlight cutting through the clouds to hit the right piece of foreground.

Since then I have specialised in landscape photography, I'm most at home in the highlands of Scotland though of course am lucky enough living in the North of England to have some amazing scenery on my doorstep.

I hope you like my photos, if you do maybe you like them enough to have them on the walls of your house or office. If there is a size or media you want which isn't listed please get in touch, I have some amazing print houses available to make whatever you might need.

Thanks for looking at my photos and taking the time to read this! I hope you enjoy your stay here.
