Double Rainbow on Blà Bheinn, Skye

Double Rainbow on Blà Bheinn, Skye

As I've said before the light on Skye is both magical and also changed by the second, as does the weather. I got soaked trying to set up a shot a mere 10 metres from the car, the rain came so quickly. As it cleared, though the sky was still almost black, the most amazing double rainbow appeared, together with light on the mountains in front. It was worth the soaking to grab this shot. You can still see the waves of rain coming in from the left.

Blà Bheinn (also known as Blaven), is a mountain on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is usually regarded as an outlier to the Black Cuillin. It is mainly composed of gabbro, a rock with excellent grip for mountaineers and scramblers. The name "Blà Bheinn" is thought to mean "blue mountain", from a combination of Norse and Gaelic. Whereas blå in Modern Norwegian means "blue", the Old Norse word blá could, however, also refer to the colours blue-black and black.
